It's that time of year again! Time to dress up the dog!
every halloween since mimi was born, i have been dressing up Kaya for halloween in a costume that coordinates with whatever mimi is wearing and then rob and i take the two of them door to door for trick or treating.
the first year we (well, more like "me", rob only shakes his head at me and apologizes to kaya for my behavior, while laughing openly at her misfortune) dressed up mimi as Dorothy from the wizard of oz and kaya was the scarecrow. she was NOT happy with this get up, but she kept it on all night.

then the next halloween mimi and kaya were both fairy ballerinas. i wanted the two to match, so i made both kaya and mimi's costumes. again, kaya kept on the costume, but occasionally would do battle with the fairy wings.

then the year after that, mimi said she wanted to be a cowgirl. so kaya (and this time we roped my sister woo's dog into a costume as well) was a cowboy. i found her costume online, so luckily i had nothing to make.

and finally, last halloween, mimi wanted to be a cheerleader. so kaya was the football player. i couldnt find a football player dog costume in the right colors, but i did find a toddler halloween costume. with a little tweaking, it turned out to be the perfect size for a large dog. the socks were a pair of rob's tube socks that i colored with some magic markers. the ball was from the Party Store. kaya ended up biting it off the hands part way thru the night. she's starting to get a little defiant about her costumes these days.

and now that brings us to halloween 08. mimi says that this year she would like to be cinderella. i tried to talk her into being Padame Amadala (star wars), so kaya could be Darth Vader and Ozzy (yes, this year i have 3 costumes to figure out) could be Yoda. but mimi knows nothing about Star Wars and told me she didnt think the costume was so beautiful and she wants to have a big poufy princess gown like cinderella. so i found her cinderella costume. it was pricey. i would make her one, but i know i can't make 3 costumes in time for halloween. one day when she is older, instead of buying ready made costumes, i imagine we'll make our own. i recall that being a big part of the fun of halloween when i was a kid. planning and creating our own costumes.
anyway, i figured if mimi wanted to be a princess, then ozzy could be a prince and kaya could be his steed. i wasnt able to find an infant prince costume or a good horse costume for dogs, so i have begun planning how to make their costumes. (rob rolled his eyes and sighed heavily when i told him i would be taking on this new project, as projects have a way of consuming me).
i tried to track down some doll hair or fake fur so i could make a horse mane and horse tail for kaya, but unable to find it, i decided to try black yarn. i put it on kaya's head and rob told me she looked jamaican:

i'm hoping when it's all done, she will be recognizable as a horse.

What is planned for 09? When do you have to start the process?
