Boy Baby Shower for Cousin Jean

cousin jean is preggo with her first baby.  and it's a boy!  after having a little boy myself, i am so thrilled for jean and keith: baby boys are so sweet, loving, and fun!  :)  my sisters and i hosted a shower for her here at my house.  woo made the savory, i did the decorating and sweets, and nan, cousin hae, and jean's friend janice pitched in with fruit, goodies, etc. the theme was just going to be a blue (w/accent colors) thing, but not long before the shower, jean lets us know she is doing a jungle nursery, so i incorporated a few jungle animals in the mix where i could.  :) for gifts we bought jean the high chair from her registry, a bunch of baby items that i strung up on a clothesline, (with baby's science-y parents we thought it would be fun to include items with pics of cartoon microbes and such on them), and a bath themed diaper cake.

Donating to Doorways

On the Thursday following her birthday, we went to Doorways to donate the money and paper towels Mimi collected for her birthday in lieu of presents for herself.  It was such a wonderful, positive experience.  Wyatt came to personally meet and greet Mimi and thank her for her thoughtful donation.  He told her about some of the people her donation would be helping and how it would help them.  He gave her a few little info brochures and one of those rubber bracelets.  Mimi was very shy and didnt quite seem to know what to say.  But on our way back to our car, she was quite talkative saying how she had so many toys and so many people didnt have anything and how on her next birthday she was going to make another donation.  It warmed my heart to hear her talk.  I'm glad she is appreciative of the blessings in her life, realizing that there are others out there that are struggling to have even their basic needs met and wanting to help.

Mimi's 8th Birthday: American Girl Samantha Mystery Party

The planning for this party started some time last March, believe it or not!  After the success of Mimi's Rainbow Magic fairies party , Mimi and I discussed what would be a good theme for the next party.  Her interests these days are so limited.  If it's not fairies, it's Pokemon and American Girl.  She liked the idea of having an American Girl party.  We considered having the party at the store. Here's what you get at the store: Private space to celebrate A delicious meal with signature pink-and-white cake and ice cream Special goody bags and doll tiaras for each girl A commemorative keepsake for the birthday girl A fun table activity and a craft A set of invitations with matching thank-you notes $47 per girl and $37 per adult, excluding tax and gratuity. Plus, special add-ons are available to customize your party experience for additional fees, including: Doll Hair Salon services (available with a minimum of four dolls with ...
