Ozzy Says

"wooooaah!  careful!"   he likes to walk down the stairs like a big person.  i guess i'm constantly saying the phrase, "woooah!  be careful!"  because that's what he says now when he's walking down the stairs.  which by the way is roughly the pace of growing trees.  when he crawls down backwards, he luges down on his tummy and he's really fast.  i couldnt go that fast wrapped in plastic and covered in grease.  seriously, i would do it that way myself if i could.  but after turning 1.5 he prefers to walk down the stairs like the rest of us.  makes my palms sweat like crazy to see him do this.  once i got so worried, i yelled, "ozzy, please, turn around and go down backwards!!!" so of course, he stands there on the top step and starts to spin in circles.  my heart shot up my throat and smashed out of the back of my teeth.  somehow he manages to fall and smack his head when he's on a level surface, but while spinni...

Ozzy is 19 months old today

the time goes by so fast. i can't believe my baby boy is already 19 months and that much closer to being two. he's officially past the 1.5 mark now. as of less than a week ago, we stopped giving him his bottle.  he now drinks entirely from sippy cups, straws, or open cups.  there's been a dramatic decrease in his milk consumption since that has happened, but i'm hoping it will go back up once he gets comfortable with it.   he's at a decent weight and eating enough solids for me to feel comfortable taking the bottle away.  so far he's been falling asleep just fine without it, which is the part that i worried most about.  i've been giving him lots of cuddles when he drinks from his sippy cup to make that transition a little bit easier.  he seems to like that.  he says, "hold you" and backs into me to be held while he drinks from his cups. ozzy has lately been trying to sing more.  sometimes i'll hear him rattle off random letters but can...

the second tooth

mimi's second tooth fell out tonight.  her bottom front/right incisor.  her top left incisor is also quite loose.  when that one falls out she will look like a little jack o' lantern.  :)  she was playing at a friend's house, roughhousing a bit and she banged her mouth and shortly afterwards came to me and said that she bumped her tooth, which had been extremely wiggly these past few days and very close to falling out, while she was playing and it felt funny.  i said, well give it a little tug and see what happens. she grabbed it and gave it a little pull and out it popped without any resistance.  we carefully packed it away and put it in her tooth holder when we got home and she ever so precisely, set it under her pillow.  she had a lot more questions about the tooth fairy this time around.  how does she get in?  how does she know that my tooth fell out?  what does she look like?  and on and on.  of course i dont know a...

SNOW MORE! ...er...wait...that's not what i meant to say. no more, snow more...oh, forget it!

the blizzard of '10 had more names than eskimos have for 'snow', some of my favorites being: snowmaggedon, snowtorious B.I.G. aka biggie snows,  snOMG!,  snoWTF?,  snowpocalypse, kaiser snowze, snowbliteration, snowbowl, and the lesser popular but still funny because it's so true, "SnowmygodimnotshovelinganymoreofthiswhitecrapimmovingtoFLA."  call it what you will, it was an unreal amount of snow.  the storm (part one) dumped easily two feet of snow around our home.   usually, i like living here at the end of the court, but after the snow plow came through, pushing all that snow down to the end of our cul-de-sac, i realized there is definitely one downside.  (but hey, at least the snow plow came thru!  wooo hooo!) on day two of the blizzard, we finally ventured out, the snow was so high, i had to tamp down a path for the kids to be able to walk over it and snowblowers became the new must have gadget of husbands struggling to shovel up FEET of...

Mimi Says

mimi says:  mom, why can't dad's be bosses. me:  what do you mean? mimi:  you know!  why can't dad be boss of the house? me:  he's not? mimi: Nooooo!  you are! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ mimi says:  mom, do you know what i love more than candy, more than toys, and more than money? me:  what? mimi:  YOU! ----------------------------------------------------------------------- while mimi was describing a book character, i asked her how old she thought the character was and she answers, "i think she is 5 and a half.  or maybe 5 and three quarters.  or she could be 5 and three pennies.”

Mad Science party invitations

mimi wanted to have a science birthday party.  given that the party will be 1.  here at the house and 2. pricier than previous birthday parties (it's the same price for 9 kids as it was for 20-24 at our previous parties), we had to keep the numbers down to 9 kids.  it was hard to tell her only 9-- so many kids she wanted to include/didnt want to leave out.   one boy she wanted to invite JUST FOR EYE CANDY because even though they never play together [at school], she told me one night during our prebedtime chats that she "liked the way he looked."  i managed to talk her out of inviting him...you can look at him all you want for free, all day at school, chica , but mama's not paying for you to look at him at your party.  i have to draw the line there. we did eventually get the list pared down and the invitations made.  this is as far as i have gotten with her party planning... seriously, the days seem to just go by so fast!!!  i drop mimi off...
