NEVER TURN AWAY FROM YOUR BABY EVEN FOR A MINUTE! whenever a story starts like that, nothing good could possibly follow.
someone came by the house today to work on the leak around the window and i left ozzy on his tummy on the floor by mimi for a second to get the phone. rob is on the phone and he tells me to me to go and show the guy where we suspect water is leaking in from. so i run out real quick to point it out and when i get back to ozzy he is pushing up on his hands and crying hard. so i scoop him up, not really concerned b/c it's getting on evening time and he usually starts to get cranky as evening nears. but as i pick him up my eye spies this old broken photo holder on the floor where ozzy's head had been. (there used to be an alligator clip on the top of it to clip a photo to the stand).

and i'm frantically fishing my mind back to remember exactly where ozzy's head was in relation to that thing and i say to mimi what's this DOING here? and she says she wanted to give it to ozzy to play with.
now i'm screeching like a banshee at her because i have told her several times not to give things to babies because she inevitably gives ozzy all manner of objects that in the hands of babies could spell trouble. usually she likes to give ozzy tiny things that could pose a choking hazzard, but today, it looks like she decided to give him something useful for making an eyeball kabab or a frontal lobotomy.
ozzy is still wailing, i look at his head and see there's a small bleeding puncture wound on the right side of his forehead and when i scanned his face i see another bloody laceration just above his left eye. on closer inspection, the photo holder had a lone wire poking off to the side. when i touched it, it was so rigid and sharp that it instantly broke the skin on my finger and poked right in like a needle. i can only imagine how hard ozzy's head must have fallen on that sharp wire.
i'm trying to impress upon mimi how dangerous it was and she's just like, okay, whatever, mom. i show her the blood on ozzy's head and she's then clamps her hands over her ears to shut me out. OMG!!!
i sat in the bathroom cleaning ozzy's wounds while he's screaming his head off and i'm crying myself. mostly because it could have been SO much worse and i was totally shaken to the core.
i have never felt quite so angry at mimi. i know, she's only FOUR. she really doesnt understand why a baby can't play with anything. she keeps asking me can a baby do this or can a baby do that? and she's trying to learn what babies can and cant do. i have to be more vigilant and i have to do a better job of teaching mimi what is safe for babies and what is not.
