Well, up until mimi started to read everything, i had a bit more control over things here in the house. when she couldnt read, it was always so easy to just lie to her so i could have my way. like when mimi would say she wanted to watch a show on t.v. that i had recorded, i knew i could browse through the recorded shows lists and just tell her that her show did not record, but now that her reading is so vastly improved, she'll eye the list as i scroll and she'll know EXACTLY which of her favorite shows got recorded and demand to see it.
the other day, i had uploaded the video of ozzy and mimi talking. i didnt want mimi messing with the computer, so when she wanted to play the video i told her i didnt know how to do it. she takes the mouse and moves it around and it accidentally landed on the play icon and the 'help' label opens up that says "play the movie." she looks at it and reads slowly "play...the...movie. Oh! look mom, you just click here to play the movie. let me do it for you." darn, so much for that!
today, i found mimi leafing through my Parents magazine. a few minutes later, she approaches me, holding the magazine in her hand and thrusts the magazine under my nose with a finger on a picture of a group of men and she says, "mom can we get this video? i never got to see the "Imagination Movers" before. " i look at the magazine and it's a short article about preschool premiere shows starting in september and imagination movers was a show that was starting today. so i told her i would set the dvr to record the show for her.
i then tucked the Parents magazine away, lest she read some article on how to raise children and she find me deficient in some way and call me out on it. sheesh!
