went in for the 2 month check up. they tell me he's doing great, growthwise. he's packing on the pounds like gangbusters. weight 12 lbs 9 oz is in the 75th percentile. head circumference 16 inches is in the 75th percentile. and length (and this is so not accurate the way they do this...lay them flat on a sheet of paper and swipe a pencil mark at their heel and at their crown, all the while the baby is failing and shifting around on the paper) is 23 and 3/4 inches at the 80th percentile.
so he's doing well. i wanted to address all the spitting up that he does and of course they told me that refluxing is common and nothing to worry about...about half of all babies reflux/spit up. if he is gaining weight they told me they dont worry about reflux. so no treatment is necessary. i didnt ask about the tummy sleeping though. his reflux makes back sleeping very uncomfortable for him so he wakes every few minutes when sleeping on his back. the whole SIDS scare makes it a concern to keep him on his tummy.
i've been reading up on SIDS online lately and there's so much conflicting information out there on this topic, since the cause of SIDS is largely still unknown. some research shows that some kids who succumb to 'crib death' have a genetic defect that keeps them from waking when they dont get enough oxygen. one guy claims it is toxins from the mattress that shuts down their body and that wrapping the mattress will prevent the toxins from reaching the baby. anyway, lots of info out there, but nothing conclusive...they just all say to sleep the baby on his back, unless severe reflux, and then get docs approval for tummy sleeping.
the doctor also check ozzy's circ. i thought i had been doing a good job extending his member to clean it, but apparently i wasn't pressing down hard enough to pop it out far enough. she said as he got chubbier, it was scooting further back so it was more important that i push it out and press hard. she demonstrated and there were adhesions that had to be ripped away in order for his penis to fully extend. UGH! he started screaming his head off when she did it. it was as raw as the first day he had his surgery! yikes. so since then i have been very careful to extend it fully. my friend's son is 4 years old and STILL has adhesions after his circumcision. after 24 hours, it healed up nicely, but i'm still putting vaseline on it every day to keep adhesions from reforming.
