what's diarrhea?

mimi had contracted the latest bug going around that includes vomiting and diarrhea (i am convinced she picked it up when she went to the pool on sunday). she doesnt say she feels sick, she doesnt have a fever, but she does seem to have a tired look about her eyes and a loss of appetite (only really wanting fluids and popsicles) and complained of a headache. on monday night, while i was dead asleep in bed, i was suddenly awoken when i heard mimi cough and then a loud SPLAT of liquid hitting the floor (i am a very light sleeper when it comes to hearing mimi and kaya noises). immediately i shot up out of bed and started to call for mimi. she says, mama i'm in the bathroom. i hurry over there and the poor kid is sitting on the toilet, puke on her sleeve (she must have tried to involuntarily block it) and all over the floor.

i got her cleaned up and in new pjs and got her some vitamin water (it's all we had on hand) and got her to go back to bed. she said she felt fine. the next day she seemed to be okay, but by lunch time her normal poo had turned muddy. mimi was fascinated and asked me lots of questions about it. but still she didnt seem to be sick. today it was the same thing w/loose stools. but she is not cranky. she wouldnt eat much though. i did get her to eat a little bit by telling her i was going to take her picture, so she ate a few bites with gusto for the camera.

Rainbow Magic Birthday (Mimi's 7th Birthday)

Gardening My Albatross

 sometimes when i think about giving up on life in general, and sitting like a blob all day, unbidden my mind fills up with images of a neglected garden turning brown, rotting, dying, and thats often enough motivation to keep going, if for no other reason than to prevent the desolation from becoming reality.  is it weird that when i think of dying one day, that i get sad knowing my garden will die when i am gone?  i dont think anyone else would go tend to it when i am no longer around.  i hope they will at least keep a plant or two in remembrance of me, but the little pollinator waystation i've been working for several years now to create will likely be razed and no more.

Ozzy's Chut Dol (korean first birthday)

this saturday we celebrated ozzy's first birthday. in korean, this day is called the Chut Dol, the 'first birthday', and it is an important milestone. in ancient times when infant mortality was high, if a child reached his first birthday, his continued survival was generally assured and thus a cause for great celebration. the tradition continues to this day. it's a fun and special way to celebrate the child's first birthday. the invitations: i found some 'korean dol' digital scrapbook images online that i used to make these invitations to ozzy's birthday party. i printed out several copies of the flower and cut each part as an individual layer and layered them for a dimensional flower. the symbols on either side are the 'longevity' symbol. and the little tag is korean words that say, "happy birthday" when the card is opened, there are two panels on either side. when these panels are fully opened, there's information behind...
