Pajama Day Birthday Girl


it was pajama day at school and also the day i was scheduled to come in a co-op this past monday, so mimi had her bday celebration at school. here she is showing off her crown and nightgown. she is very very particular about her night clothes...she doesnt care too much what i dress her in during the day, but at night, she would rather go naked if one of her poofy beautiful gowns is not available.

this morning it was a blustery day. i took mimi to school. as we walked from our car towards the school building, the wind began to gust. mimi held tight to my hand and pretended the wind was blowing her backward. quick flashback: yesterday, while making icing for mimi's bday cake, mimi wanted to lick out the icing bowl and was hurrying to do so, and i said to her, woah, hold on to your horses! b/c i wasnt done scraping the bowl yet. mimi says, okay, mom i'll hold on! then she says. mom? what horses? so today, as the wind whipped around us and mimi felt herself get blown about she yells out, mom! i can barely hold on to my horses!

we make it inside the Activities Building en route to the playground, and she says, mom, i dont want to go to the playground today. it's too windy. it's just too very weathery outside!

Rainbow Magic Birthday (Mimi's 7th Birthday)

Gardening My Albatross

 sometimes when i think about giving up on life in general, and sitting like a blob all day, unbidden my mind fills up with images of a neglected garden turning brown, rotting, dying, and thats often enough motivation to keep going, if for no other reason than to prevent the desolation from becoming reality.  is it weird that when i think of dying one day, that i get sad knowing my garden will die when i am gone?  i dont think anyone else would go tend to it when i am no longer around.  i hope they will at least keep a plant or two in remembrance of me, but the little pollinator waystation i've been working for several years now to create will likely be razed and no more.

Ozzy's Chut Dol (korean first birthday)

this saturday we celebrated ozzy's first birthday. in korean, this day is called the Chut Dol, the 'first birthday', and it is an important milestone. in ancient times when infant mortality was high, if a child reached his first birthday, his continued survival was generally assured and thus a cause for great celebration. the tradition continues to this day. it's a fun and special way to celebrate the child's first birthday. the invitations: i found some 'korean dol' digital scrapbook images online that i used to make these invitations to ozzy's birthday party. i printed out several copies of the flower and cut each part as an individual layer and layered them for a dimensional flower. the symbols on either side are the 'longevity' symbol. and the little tag is korean words that say, "happy birthday" when the card is opened, there are two panels on either side. when these panels are fully opened, there's information behind...
