Pool Table Graffiti



came home today with my friend tina and her kids and we were hanging out a bit in the basement when tina draws in a quick breath and asks me 'did mimi do that???" i looked at the pool table and it is covered with writing. some of it hard to make out, but there was clearly a MIMI IM as well as some other random letters written on the table. i call mimi over and ask her, mimi who wrote on the pool table. 'oh i dont know'

mimi, did you write on the pool table? "well, maybe i did."

what did you write on the pool table with? (she points to the pool stick)

you know you only write on PAPER , not on the tables or walls, you know that dont you? "well, maybe i should hide." she says, as she crawls under the pool table.

you're going to have to tell daddy what you did. "but will daddy get mad at me?" he'll be upset, but you have to tell him the truth and promise not to do it again.

after tina and her kids left, i take mimi upstairs to tell rob. rob calmly listens (he had already seen it) and tells her she must write on paper only. we go downstairs and mimi helps us scrub the words off the table.

i honestly dont know what possessed her to sit up on the table and write letters on it with a pool stick!

Rainbow Magic Birthday (Mimi's 7th Birthday)

Gardening My Albatross

 sometimes when i think about giving up on life in general, and sitting like a blob all day, unbidden my mind fills up with images of a neglected garden turning brown, rotting, dying, and thats often enough motivation to keep going, if for no other reason than to prevent the desolation from becoming reality.  is it weird that when i think of dying one day, that i get sad knowing my garden will die when i am gone?  i dont think anyone else would go tend to it when i am no longer around.  i hope they will at least keep a plant or two in remembrance of me, but the little pollinator waystation i've been working for several years now to create will likely be razed and no more.

Ozzy's Chut Dol (korean first birthday)

this saturday we celebrated ozzy's first birthday. in korean, this day is called the Chut Dol, the 'first birthday', and it is an important milestone. in ancient times when infant mortality was high, if a child reached his first birthday, his continued survival was generally assured and thus a cause for great celebration. the tradition continues to this day. it's a fun and special way to celebrate the child's first birthday. the invitations: i found some 'korean dol' digital scrapbook images online that i used to make these invitations to ozzy's birthday party. i printed out several copies of the flower and cut each part as an individual layer and layered them for a dimensional flower. the symbols on either side are the 'longevity' symbol. and the little tag is korean words that say, "happy birthday" when the card is opened, there are two panels on either side. when these panels are fully opened, there's information behind...
