got one of these Peter Potties for ozzy not too long ago. he loves to flush it. after a few days of showing him the potty and asking him if he'd like to pee pee like dad does standing up, he'd say yes, and i'd take him to the potty, and he'd work his tummy muscles, and then say he was done after a few seconds of trying (but not producing anything), then would want to flush it and then wash hands.
tonight, i asked him if he wanted to try the standy uppy potty and as usual he says yes, but immediately he demands that i fill the tank up with water so he can flush it. no, i tell him. if you try to pee pee in the potty mommy will fill it with water and you can flush. he tried. nothing. that's okay, i say, do you want to try again next time? he doesnt want to leave the bathroom without getting a chance to flush it and keeps insisting that i fill the tank up with water so he can flush the toilet saying, "water! water! water!"
so again, i tell him, no, when you go potty you get water. do you want to try it again? he nods, so i stand him by the potty again and unbelievably, he starts to pee right into the potty. it took a bit of effort to get it all out. it wasnt a continuous stream, but he worked on it and worked on it until he voided every last drop he had in him! i cheered him the whole time and mimi ran into the bathroom to cheer him too. and then when he was done, i filled it with water so he could flush it, but before we could celebrate much more, we could hear the garage door opening, heralding Rob's arrival home. immediately, ozzy is off and running to the stairs to go downstairs to meet rob at the garage door, yelling, "yay! daddy home!"
i tried to keep the excitement and momentum going with the whole pottying thing by cheering him in front of Rob and telling daddy about what great thing ozzy did, but i think he'd already forgotten about it.
i hope he remembers his success tomorrow and is willing to do a repeat performance!
