OH MY GOD...TWENTY MONTHS OLD...he's officially in his twenties now. wow. that's only four months from being TWO OH MY GOD YEARS OLD. i knew this day would come and i was bracing myself for it, but it's too soon...TOO SOON!!!! (in my head i'm on the floor, grasping at my hair, and rocking back and forth)
ozzy's speaking in two word phrases a little less than half of the time now. (mom, see?; shoes on!; yay eat!; no swiping! oh man!; see haytoter! (helicopter); down stairs!; have it?; me turn!; 'kay mom; bad luck; wash hands; change channel; change diaper; all aboard!; happy to you!; gotta go!; oh so pretty!; uh oh mess!; daddy home!; thank you!; bless you!; wubboo (love you); mimi -- (hat, shoes, toy), bye bye dora (or whatever is departing: show, toy, water); hot soup!; owno! (i dont know); etc)
he can identify his numbers 0-10 and count them in order.
he can identify most of the letters of the alphabet (both lower case and upper case), but saying them in order is still patchy.
he can identify basic shapes (circle, oval, octagon, diamond, star, rectangle, triangle, square)
he can identify basic colors (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, black, white)
he is generally able to articulate most sounds in his speech, but still has difficulty with "L" (usually not mastered until the age of 3 years or later, so i expect this one to be hard for a long time. mimi didnt master it until two and half), so an airplane is an hairpane, and look is said "wook". he can make the "K" sound when saying "car" but it is not present when he says "cat" (tat) or "candy" (tandy). he still calls milk "nalk" but i'll sometimes hear him practicing the correct way even tho he still misses the mark ("mmmmmmmuhhhhhhh....nalk"). the 'sn' words he leaves off the "s". he says "shemmen" when he says "seven." and he calls Blues Clues "coos coos" even tho he can say "blues" when he says it by itself.
he loves to tell knock knock jokes with no punch lines. he's content to just say "knock knock!" and have someone say, "who's there?" and then he looks around him for some inspiration, and says whatever he spies, like "shoes" or "marker", etc. and then i say, "shoes who?" and then he just peters out and then starts all over again with "knock knock."
he continues to move easily, now he even jumps off the last step of the stairs. he tries to do it from higher up but i go into a screaming conniption whenever he tries so he thinks better of it. i probably terrify him.
he loves the gummy vitamins that mimi takes, so i allow him one a day (mimi gets two). but he thinks it's candy and wants more than one and i tell him repeatedly, "no! medicine!" so sometimes he'll point and say, "medicine! have it?"
mimi has a toy robot. ozzy likes to turn it on and say, "wobadurt! wobadurt! dendanjer! dendanjer!" (red alert! red alert! danger! danger!), which is what a robot on the the show Max and Ruby says.
he loves to color and he knows he's only supposed to color on paper, but sometimes he will toe the line and color on the table and make a big deal about showing me. just like he knows he's not supposed to put small toys in his mouth but will put it in there anyway and then walk to me and say, "mom! mouth!" and then open his mouth and let a marble or some tiny toy part fall out! (URGH!!!)
of course he still loves vehicles of all kinds. while driving, if he sees any construction vehicle, he'll name it and i'll hear him say, "Mixer!" or "Digger!" or " 'porter!" (transporter).
he still enjoys playing with the baby doll...feeding it, holding it, walking around the house with it, etc. that really amuses me since mimi never got into playing like that.
he's interested in playdough and scissors and i know i have to make more time to work with him on handling both, but have not been so good about making time for it. i will do better this month.
he loves animals. i've also got to make time to give him chances to see animals and explore nature.
he loves to play in the play kitchen and make food and pour 'coffee'.
he continues to love to play in water and still asks every day for "water" play time.
he copies the exasperated sound that i make whenever he makes a mess.
when he passes gas he thinks it's pretty funny and laughs and says, "farted!"
his favorite part in the story Oh! David! is when David has a PU diaper. whenever i sense a smelly diaper and say, "something stinks!", ozzy says, "Oh! David!"
when ozzy doesnt like other people are talking to me and taking my attention away from him, he'll stand in front of me and yell, " mom. mom! MOM! Mom! Mom! Mooooom! mmmmmmmoooom! mom! MOM! mom! mooooom! mmmmmmmmom! MOM!..." until i finally pay attention to him. ignoring him doesnt really work...he can go on for days like this, just standing there yelling mom! over and over.
