ozzy this week

ozzy pooped in the toilet last night.

he tells me he wants his "poopoo diaper on".  i'm in the middle of cleaning, so i send him to daddy.  i hear rob ask him if he wants to try the toilet.  i didnt hear ozzy's response, but he usually answers 'yes' to everything, except for the things that he knows he absolutely does not want.  then he'll say, "no, denchu" (no thank you).

a minute goes by in silence and then suddenly i hear rob cheering and telling ozzy what a great job he did.  so i go quickly over to the bathroom and ozzy is on the toilet and there's poop inside.  this after he pooped in his underwear earlier that morning and i spent the morning washing him, his clothes, and  the floor.   but he didnt pee in his underwear so that's progress!   sure, i was glad rob had this "first" with ozzy, since i'm usually the one that gets to experience them being at home with the kids all day, but still, i would have gladly traded that morning's poop episode w/yesterday evening's poop achievement.

i found some thomas the train, toy story, Cars, and mickey undies at marshalls (along w/some great deals on some take along thomas and friends sets that you know i snapped up immediately!).  so now i have an arsenal of undies to make it thru a day of accidents.  ozzy still cant pull his undies up over his behind.  he can get them up to the tops of his legs and then he just stops.  and he can't pull them down either without help.  the band just gets hung up on his round, fat baby butt and wont come down.  it's totally cute.

this week ozzy and mimi have been on antibiotics for strep.  they are both asymptomatic, so i had no idea they even had strep until i got sick.  i thought i had bad allergies, then the sore throat and sinus pain hit.  the doc gave me antibiotics.  12 days later, the entire left side of my head/ear/throat is in so much pain, i called the doc again.  i can barely swallow.  got more antibiotics and the doc says, 'is there someone at home who also has strep that you picked up back up from?"  always had a niggling suspicion that my kids might be asymptomatic.  i took ozzy to the ped's first...oh yes, definitely strep, the swab test confirmed.  so i took mimi in the next day.  again, no doubt about it, definitely strep.  so, i have to make sure i test them every time they are exposed to anyone w/strep because they could have it and i would never know.

so, now both kids and i have been on antibiotics.  about 8 days into treatment, ozzy breaks out into a rash.  red bumps everywhere, face, neck, ears, hands, torso, legs, w/the worst ones forming on his legs.   went back to the ped's for the millionth time this month (been there so much, i started to feel like i should pay them rent).  the doc checked him over and concluded:
1.  viral rash (if sores in mouth appear, could be coxsackie virus)
2.  reaction to penicillin.  he might be allergic.
3.  chicken pox, but since he's already immunized against it, it's showing as a milder outbreak.

in any of the cases, no treatment at this time.  and we were sent home.
but me,  i'm feeling terrible again.  back of neck is unbelievably stiff, head hurts if i move too quickly, throat is scratchy and painful again, but not as bad as last week.

last weekend we took ozzy to the fairfax station train museum to see some model train exhibits and then to burke lake park to ride the train there.  he really enjoyed it all and of course he cried EVERY TIME he got off the train ride.  i can't get over how obsessed he's become with trains especially Thomas the tank engine!  i love that he enjoys them so much and i am just as obsessed now with finding train related things for him because it makes me happy to see him so happy.  i dont remember mimi ever being this crazy about any one thing.  she just liked everything.

Rainbow Magic Birthday (Mimi's 7th Birthday)

this year was a particularly difficult year to plan mimi's birthday.  after rob's dad became terminally ill, i didnt think it was good time for a party for mimi and her friends, so we decided it was best to skip a party this year and just have a quiet family dinner out.  then after dad passed and we slowly started to get back into our routines again, we all began to feel bad about not having a party for mimi, so we decided to have a party after all...although, a much belated party. mimi said she really wanted to have a party here at the house.  she really really really wanted it here, so i told her she could, if she kept it small.  since she was turning seven, i allowed her to invite seven friends. then i tasked her with thinking up a theme, and she finally settled on a favorite book series of hers called Rainbow Magic .  how perfect...each of the book sets in the series showcases 7 fairies, whether they be the rainbow fairies, the gem fairies, the party fai...

Gardening My Albatross

sometimes when i think about giving up on life in general, and sitting like a blob all day, unbidden my mind fills up with images of a neglected garden turning brown, rotting, dying, and thats often enough motivation to keep going, if for no other reason than to prevent the desolation from becoming reality.  is it weird that when i think of dying one day, that i get sad knowing my garden will die when i am gone?  i dont think anyone else would go tend to it when i am no longer around.  i hope they will at least keep a plant or two in remembrance of me, but the little pollinator waystation i've been working for several years now to create will likely be razed and no more.

Growing Things

it's crazy how long it's been since the last time i blogged here.  i spend so much time on insta and facebook, this blog has been largely ignored.  i'm on my second year of gardening and have been trying to maintaining a physical gardening log and failed at several attempts.  So i think this may be my best bet.  So here's the first gardening entry! Today is March 29th, 2022. Temps today were unseasonably cold and have been for the past three days.  Todays high temp was 47F and the low tonight will be 22F.  But should warm to the low 70s tomorrow.    This crazy cold and heavy winds yesterday blew down several daffodils.  many are leaning but upright enough that i left them and only pruned the ones that were knocked to the ground.
