took the kids to big truck day in herndon. there were TONS of little kids there (even preschool groups!) and not that many trucks...maybe 12? the parking was a nightmare...i circled around forever, the whole while mimi moaning behind me, "oh, we're never going to get there. this is taking so long. when will we be there?" and luckily before i voluntarily drove into a wall to make it stop, i spied a small stretch of parking on a gravelly shoulder, one street over. we made it in, stood in line to sign in and get little yellow 'hard hats' made of thin plastic and not really hard at all, but still cute. also some stickers.
at first, kids were just climbing inside the vehicles and cramming themselves into the cabs of the vehicles, high up barely out of reach, and starting to cry because they all wanted to sit in the drivers seat, so the mom's took charge and started forming lines and taking turns, one kid at a time. the lines for each truck were about 5-6 kids long, each child taking about 5 minutes to play. when it was finally our turn, mimi and ozzy just wanted to stay on and play. i had to drag ozzy off of each truck, crying and yelling "no! don't want to!" each time.
we made it into a small excavator, 2 different dump trucks, a bulldozer, and a roller in a little over an hour. ozzy was starting to tire of standing in line and it was lunch time anyway, so we left at that point. not the most exciting thing, but the kids enjoyed the experience. though not likely we'll do that again. definitely just a one time thing. hopefully tomorrow's Train Day at Union Station will be more fun.
