when rob called from the mall and told me this news, all that holiday cheer and crap that i had been feeling shot out of my ears with a burst of screaming steam and the fact that there was no one to yell at made my head implode. i'm not usually a vengeful person, but this stupid mistake totally messed me up. you dont just tell a parent a time that you THINK santa might be there! you double check and make damn sure you got those times right because, otherwise, ALL WILL BE LOST!
so of course, rob can't get in the line when the time comes because a huge line had already formed an hour before it was even time for santa to show up and it's already ozzy's naptime, and after 3 hours, no doubt the kids are all rumpled messes, anyway. it was clear that santa pictures could not happen this day and all that preparation was for NOTHING.
mimi felt sad that she didnt get to see santa, so i promised her we'd try again another day, but wasnt feeling very hopeful. but a few days later, we get dumped with two feet of snow and school was canceled for the week! i knew this was my chance. so monday morning i got the kids ready and we headed out for the mall as soon as it opened. the snow banked roads were a bit slow, but we got there and in line at a decent time and we only waited for about 30 minutes to see santa. i had to crack open the snacks and drinks, but by the time we got to santa, my kids were stuffed with enough calories that they were feeling good and we made it out of there just in time for a real lunch and a little bit of play time and then home in time for ozzy's nap. AND THAT'S HOW IT'S SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN.
like a well oiled machine.
