ozzy is just over 16.5 months old and he amuses me to no end. i dont know if i had quite this much fun with mimi at this age. i honestly dont remember. i am inclined to say that mimi didnt really start getting to be fun until more like 18 months of age. maybe it's because ozzy has mimi's influence. whatever the case, he's so damn cute that i have to try really hard to be stern when i discipline him when all i want to do is scoop him up and hug on him and rain kisses all over his sweet face. his antics are just too funny to me.the other day, after drinking voraciously from his sippy cup of orange juice, he suddenly flings it aside, at the same time yelling at it: 'Bye-bye Juice!" in a tone not unlike one you'd use when you scream, "later, bitches!"
he's now into jumping and the way he throws his whole body into jumping is hilarious. on a good jump he can lift both feet clean off the floor a good 2-3 inches...once i swear i saw him get 4 inches of air. i dont even know when mimi started jumping like that, but i know it was definitely NOT at 16 months.
or when i put him to bed and he really doesnt want to sleep and i wont let him play because i know it will just rile him up and make nap/sleep a study in futility, he does this big ole fake cry, and my answer to that is, "ozzy, night night." then he'll stop crying abruptly and then touch my nose and say sweetly, "noshe" (nose) and then touch my mouth and say, "mouse" and grin up at me to get me to forget my agenda to put him to sleep and instead play his game of naming face and body parts. of course, i play along. and after naming our noses several hundred times, i do finally get stern and make him go to sleep. but he clearly understands that i am a pushover and easy prey to distraction. i think rob must be giving him these lessons on the side.
ozzy is really starting to talk more. he can say some of the color and shape names with enough clarity for rob, mimi, and me to understand him. the other day he patted my maroon colored shirt and says, "puhpo" (purple). i thought it was more red, so i told him, "red" and he says, "ed". (i love it!)
he'll drop things on purpose and say in this funny way, "oh noooo!"
he likes having the t.v. on even tho he doesnt always watch it. he like nihao kailan, wow wow wubzy (he calls it wow wow), and wonder pets. sometimes he likes little einsteins. if anything else is on (like Top Chef or Project Runway), he brings me the remote (he calls it the "mote" and the t.v. is "teetee") to try to find his shows for him. and if i dont do it he gets screaming mad. even that is so funny and cute to me. i hate to laugh at him at a time when he's so upset. but i do. not to be mean. he's just such a funny little man.
sometimes, he'll come by and hit me, but then suddenly turn gentle and ever so lightly stroke the top of my head and say , "niiiiiiice."
he's IN LOVE with these Mighty Mini slow melt popsicles that rob found at the grocery store. each popsicle is the size of one large bite of a regular popsicle, set on a regular size popsicle stick. so it's the perfect size for little ones with plenty of stick for their chubby little hands to hold. and since it's so much smaller ozzy can finish one before it begins to melt everywhere (and the addition of gelatin to the popsicle also helps to keep it from melting fast). but he's totally addicted to these and asks for "pop pop" ALL DAY. i do allow him up to two (they are really quite small) a day between meals, but if i let him, that's probably all he'd eat all day! i am going to try to find a small mold and make some homemade mini pops for him out of pureed fruit and yogurt so there will be some nutritional value to these treats and less sugar. if only he'd eat REGULAR food with that same kind of gusto! too bad they dont make dinner popsicles, but i'm guessing a turkey pot pie popsicle wouldnt go over so well. just a hunch.
i can't tell if he wont eat solid table foods because he wants to be on the move and doesnt want to sit still (he'll eat a few bites of food and then try to climb out of his highchair), or if he's getting so many calories from formula (which he still gets about 20-24 oz of a day) that he's not hungry, or if he's grazing on various bites of food through out the day (i find myself fixing small snacks for him several times a day to try to get him to eat...i may be doing too much of this, perhaps?).
he is totally into drinking his drinks the way mimi does, without a lid or straw. he demands to have an open top cup and after several swigs, he'll then dump it out onto himself. and now he's taken to yelling at himself for me, "oh noooo! Meh! dundy!" (mess! dirty!)
he loves to walk around brushing his teeth with his electric toothbrush (or mimi's. he often swipes hers as well). the other day, i saw him run to the bathroom while brushing, and when i followed him, i find him standing on the step stool in front of the sink, spitting. he was pretending to spit out toothpaste, even tho he doesnt have any.
when he wants to be cuddled, but i dont pay attention to him because i'm busy (cooking, dishes, etc) he'll come flying at me and shove my knees with all his might. he can totally knock me off balance.
oddly, when i say the world, "ducats" he giggles. EVERY TIME.
he makes me name everything in his baby books and if i dont name them fast enough, he smacks the picture severely with his hand and screams, "DIS!!! DIS!!!" (this! this!) his voice escalating louder and louder if i'm slow to respond.
is any of this funny to any one else? or am i so in love with my baby boy that it tickles me to no end??? i dont know. i guess i am turning into one of those moms that totally worships their sons. ewww. does that mean he'll be living with me and i'll still be changing his Star Wars bedsheets when he's 35 and working as a physicist?
