mimi has been asking me every evening when her new high uppy bed was coming. well, today it finally arrived. the guys from Belfort furniture store came and delivered the mirror, seven drawer dresser, and her new canopy bed (a month ago i ordered a modular storage system from The Company Store to store mimi's books and such, so that was already set up in her room).
the white canopy bed matched the color of mimi's existing side table and the new storage cubes, but as i feared, the color difference between the dresser and bed is very noticeable. rob says it isnt, but i can really see the difference. i could have bought the dresser that went with the bed (the Isabella collection by Stanley), but i didnt care for the look of it so much. so instead i bought from the Legacy collection (also by Stanley). both said the color was 'white' but there really is no such thing as a simple white. so many variations of white. it's not horrible, but still noticeable. it is a really nice dresser though...and HEAVY. i couldnt even budge the thing one inch! it's amazing how those two guys were able to get it up two flights of stairs, and one that wrapped around, no less!!!
the mirror that i bought is a problem, because it really makes the color difference btwn all the furniture and the dresser stand out...because of course, while i liked the dresser from the Legacy collection, i liked the mirror from the Isabella collection! oy vey! i think i will repaint the mirror!!! if i had been smart about it, i shouldn't have bought the $260 mirror from Belfort at all and just took my chances looking for a simple oval mirror from TJ Maxx or HomeGoods for $40. i probably could return the mirror, pay the 20% restocking fee and get one from TJ Maxx and still have spent less. ugh.
anyway, it was amusing to see how excited mimi was about her furniture. she wanted to watch the guys assemble the bed ('look at them working like ants, mommy!'). when they were finished, one of the guys says to mimi, 'what do you think? do you like it?" mimi surveys the finished bed frame, which we still had not put a mattress on yet, looks at it dubiously and says, 'well, dont you know, it looks too hard. i need something soft to lay on."
anyway, all the furniture that i have planned for mimi's room is IN. DONE. i have just to add a cushion to the cubes under her window to make a window seat, add some decorative pillows, a new table lamp, paint the walls and the existing armoire and baskets, and it will all be finished in her room. oh, and she said she really really really wants a fluffy pink heart shaped rug.
then on to baby boy's room!
--------------------------------------------------------------
while putting the bedding on mimi's new bed, mimi is standing next to me, absently pushing some pins around that i had been working with, and she says to me, mom, where did you get me?
wha...??? no idea what she meant. 'where did i GET you?'
yeah, did you pick me out from the Little Kids Store?
i smiled, 'no, silly! you didnt come from a store. you came out of mommy's belly, just like your baby brother will.'
oh, well, how did i get there?
uh, what??
how did i get inside your belly?
you know what, mims? i bet your dad would love to answer that question for you. why dont you go ask daddy.
excuse me, mommy? why dont you want to tell me how i got inside your belly?
oh, of course i'll tell you...because mommy and daddy love each other so much, you were born.
oh, i see. (obviously a good enough answer because she got up and left to go play with something else)
later, i tell mimi, 'why dont you ask daddy where you came from', i'm feeling rather gleeful, hoping to see rob squirm.
okay, she says. she walks into rob's office where he is working and says, 'daddy where did you get me? did you get me from the Little Kids Store?'
who told you that?
i did.
you should go ask your mom.
