The aquarium stand arrived on thurs afternoon from petsmart. i assembled it that day, so i could finally move the fish tank to its permanent location, fill up the tank and let the fish finally stretch their fins. mimi was quite thrilled with the stand and helped me move the fish supplies to the cabinets. and then it was time to move the fish. i thought i'd be able to move the tank myself if i drained out most of the water, but found out quickly that a 20 gallon glass tank, with 5 lbs of gravel, and approx 4 gals of water, and aquarium paraphernalia weigh a LOT. so, no, moving it by myself was probably not going to happen!
hmmm. what to do. what to do. the fish were getting frantic in the few inches of water i had left in the tank in an effort to lighten it. i had to do something quick, either find a way to move it now, or fill it back up and wait four days until DH came home to move it for me. thankfully, Friend Karen came to the rescue (she was coming over anyway to plan out our next pretend room changeover at ozzy's preschool). and together we were able to move the tank and fill it back up with more water. (yay! three cheers for Karen!) but, let me tell you, lifting and pouring several 5 gallon buckets of water into a tall tank is neither an easy task nor is it a pretty one. (make sure the lid is off, first of all...that's one mistake i'll only make once.) so the next day i went online and i ordered a tank water changer from amazon. (it's a beautiful thing...well in theory. i have yet to try it out.)
so now, Orange Blossom, Sun Sparkle and the Rainbow Bros and Sis's seem to be quite happy and well in their new location. the tank is a little too high for the kids to reach the top, so mimi brings over a step stool in the mornings to feed them. but other than that, we're really happy with it.
