18 months is such a fun age. what they understand, how they communicate, what they find interesting, the connections they make, 18 month olds have such a wonderful way about that them that i find so endearing and endlessly fascinating.
Ha Fied!
like jane goodall observing the chimps, i watch my own charming chip for clues to understand what he tries to communicate day to day in his toddlerese.
a couple of days ago, i observed him gently hugging a baby doll and happily playing with it, when suddenly he yells out "Ha Fied!" and then slaps the baby. again, "Ha Fied" and then slap the baby. this happened a few more times before i noticed that he was aiming at the same spot, right at the baby's hand which sort of lay across the dolls chest. high five. oh. so i put out my hand and he says, "Ha Fied" and smacks my hand. ah-ha.
Are you being served?
mimi really likes those chewy fruit snacks, so i bought some for her to have as a sometime treat. ozzy adores them (of course). one day, when he was tantrumming over wanting candy, i went to the pantry and looked in saying, "How abouuuuuuut....crackers?" to which he says, "no!" and a vehement head shake. "Hmmmm. How abouuuuuut...cereal?" again, no. "How abouuuut...applesauce?" this time he answers, "how'booooouuuuuuuut?" as he grabs a bag of fruit chews out of mimi's snack basket and hands it to me.
Nahhhhhhssssss!
ozzy still likes to hit everything. whenever he hits me or mimi or rob and we admonish him, he immediately follows it with a gentle stroking petting and says, "nahhhhhsssss" (nice), as if saying nice and being gentle makes it okay that he beat up on us.
Waddoo?
ozzy's new favorite past time is water play. one day he wanted to play and play and play at the bathroom sink and kept demanding "Waddoo! on!" (water! on!). not wanting to run water all day, i put some in a plastic tub and put some towels on the kitchen floor and let him have at it. now he asks every day Waddoo? and brings me any empty plastic tub to fill up with water so he can play. the kitchen floor is getting washed more often, so i guess it's a good thing.
of course during the course of water exploration, this was coming:
