went to the govt center today for h1n1 vaccines for mimi and ozzy. it was WOW! amazing how efficiently they handled the masses. from the streets leading into the govt center there were police to guide the traffic, to several people standing at the entrance holding clipboards with forms, which i filled out as i walked down the corridors, lined with people in green vests that would check your forms as you walked thru. we were directed to a doctor in a red vest since mimi had an allergy and ozzy was under two, but they okayed the forms quickly since neither posed much of a concern for the vaccine. and we were moving on towards to the many, many, MANY stations where shots/mist were being administered. it was a long walk thru and up and down stairs, but we never had to stand in a line, we were pretty much kept moving and processed along the way. the only time we were ever still for any appreciable time was while the kids got their shots.
mimi, SUCH an odd kid, was SKIPPING towards the gov center, saying, I'm SOOO excited about getting my shot! and GIGGLING. when it was shot time, she hauled back her shirt to expose her upper arm without any prompting and sat waiting patiently for the lady to set up the shot for her. they had a thimersol free version for mimi in a single use syringe, but since ozzy needed a smaller dose, he had to have a dose from the mulituse vial which contains thimerisol. mimi didnt even flinch after getting the shot, but i could see she was a bit shaken by it. i'm sure she felt it, that needle was long and went in deep, but she took it really well. they bandaged her up and she was good to go. ozzy had to be held down by me, rob, and the lady giving the shot. he cried more from being held still than he did after the shot.
so that's one shot down and one more to go. hopefully round two will be as easy to do.
