mimi has always wanted to whistle...since she was two she was profoundly enamored with whistling and has been practicing every day since. not long after her 4th birthday she finally was able to get out a small whistle. every day, she continued to practice. now a days, she whistles. nonstop. all day. while practicing her korean homework, while walking, while riding in the car, while going up the stairs, she whistles. continuously.
her teacher told me that mimi whistles all day at school and has to be asked to stop just so her classmates can get a break from all that whistling.
today, mimi was whistling while working on her korean homework. i dont even think she was even aware of the fact that she was doing it, like maybe she's been doing it for so long, she doesnt even know anymore when she does it.
so i told her to stop.
"but mom, i like the sound of my whistle." she says.
"i know you do. and i'm sure it's a lot of fun, but other people get tired of hearing it all day and it makes it hard for other people to concentrate." i tell her.
"i dont get tired of it." she says.
"well, you're not the only person in the world, you know." i informed her, starting to get exasperated with her. "why dont you take a break from whistling, eh?"
"but mom, i dont need a break. i'm all powered up!" she says.
