around xmas 2014, a modernized version of the musical Annie came out. The kids wanted to see it so i took them. they loved the songs and enjoyed the movie. i told them back in the 80's, the first Annie musical movie was released, so they asked if they could see it. i found it streaming for free on amazon instant video. so they watched it and loved it. ozzy asked me to buy it for him so he could watch it more often. i found the dvd at target for $5 and it comes with so many great extras that it was totally worth the purchase and more. there's singalongs, act alongs, background about the time of Annie, the actress that played Annie gives her account...really great stuff. the kids watch a bit of it every day while in the car and havent asked me to change the dvd, going thru all the special features over and again and watching the movie more times than i can count. i have heard the songs so many times now, that i find myself singing them during the day at home! seeing how much ozzy enjoyed the movie/songs, i saw that Annie! broadway touring was nearby in Baltimore. i asked the kids if they would like to see it and ozzy screamed yes! so i bought tix to see Annie at the Hippodrome at the baltimore inner harbor. we made a day of it there playing at the Port Discovery Children's museum, grabbed a nice dinner, and then watched the show.
it was interesting to see how the stage production differed from the 80's movie...even several songs were different. the kids enjoyed it, but ozzy said, of the 3 Annies that he saw, the 80's movie was the best one. i'm glad i was able to get ozzy out to see another musical (he saw Lion King last summer at the Kennedy Center). he's usually not so easy to take out places, but having more enjoyable experiences, like this one, will make it easier to get him to do it in the future.
