Halloween 2012

its been too long since my last post again.  *sigh.  what can i say?  LIFE IS BUSY!

since mimi started the Advanced Academics Level 4 this school year, she has been working long hours on school work every day in addition to after school activities (and now its school work she needs help on when in the past it was so easy she blew thru the assignments in 10 minutes on her own).  the crazy thing is, we HAVE cut back a little this year with Mimi, but still she is doing more than enough to keep me busy:  gymnastics, girl scouts, ballet/tap, hip hop, lacrosse, and piano.  and add in the fact that ozzy is now old enough (4) to do more:  gymnastics, swimming, karate (3 times a week), ballet, soccer, and piano, and he is now at preschool 4 days out of the week, which means i'm in the car a lot more these days!  and i'm still leading the pretend room at his preschool.  all that makes it rather hard to find much time to keep up with the family blog.  which makes me sad because these days will otherwise be forgotten if i dont take the time to write it down.

So, despite Busy Life, we managed to work in a Halloween party, mostly for the preschool kids since Halloween is different for them and scary is NOT fun.  i think the advent of Hurricane Sandy blowing into the eastern shore was actually a bit of a help in that area! yes, we did lose power, and yes, it did take extra time to bring back in all the outside decorations and then put them back out again, but it also meant that all schools and activities were cancelled, so it was like having extra time suddenly appear!  suddenly mimi had extra time to finish her work, we were home long enough to clean and decorate it and just prior to halloween the power came on, and we were closer to ready than i would have been had the kids had all their scheduled activities!

unfortunately folks up north didnt have it as easy.  the pictures of the flooded northern states were very sobering and i was really thankful that conditions here at my house were almost mild in comparison (and we had a working generator!)  the kids knew little about what was going on, they just enjoyed their little school holiday, had fun with glowsticks and fireside meals when the power went out,  and then the halloween celebration shortly after we were back on the grid.  the party was fun and the little guys had a chance to celebrate, unfortunately, there were some scary costumed trick or treaters outside and that upset several of the children.  :(

Rainbow Magic Birthday (Mimi's 7th Birthday)

this year was a particularly difficult year to plan mimi's birthday.  after rob's dad became terminally ill, i didnt think it was good time for a party for mimi and her friends, so we decided it was best to skip a party this year and just have a quiet family dinner out.  then after dad passed and we slowly started to get back into our routines again, we all began to feel bad about not having a party for mimi, so we decided to have a party after all...although, a much belated party. mimi said she really wanted to have a party here at the house.  she really really really wanted it here, so i told her she could, if she kept it small.  since she was turning seven, i allowed her to invite seven friends. then i tasked her with thinking up a theme, and she finally settled on a favorite book series of hers called Rainbow Magic .  how perfect...each of the book sets in the series showcases 7 fairies, whether they be the rainbow fairies, the gem fairies, the party fai...

Gardening My Albatross

sometimes when i think about giving up on life in general, and sitting like a blob all day, unbidden my mind fills up with images of a neglected garden turning brown, rotting, dying, and thats often enough motivation to keep going, if for no other reason than to prevent the desolation from becoming reality.  is it weird that when i think of dying one day, that i get sad knowing my garden will die when i am gone?  i dont think anyone else would go tend to it when i am no longer around.  i hope they will at least keep a plant or two in remembrance of me, but the little pollinator waystation i've been working for several years now to create will likely be razed and no more.

Growing Things

it's crazy how long it's been since the last time i blogged here.  i spend so much time on insta and facebook, this blog has been largely ignored.  i'm on my second year of gardening and have been trying to maintaining a physical gardening log and failed at several attempts.  So i think this may be my best bet.  So here's the first gardening entry! Today is March 29th, 2022. Temps today were unseasonably cold and have been for the past three days.  Todays high temp was 47F and the low tonight will be 22F.  But should warm to the low 70s tomorrow.    This crazy cold and heavy winds yesterday blew down several daffodils.  many are leaning but upright enough that i left them and only pruned the ones that were knocked to the ground.
