Ozzy Potty Trained

There was once i time when i actually had a bit of time to draft, proofread, edit and then publish each entry.  these days, i'm just lucky if i get anything down.  so here's a rough entry:

ozzy has had a very successful week of going without diapers entirely during the day and, with help, at night.  as long as i remember to wake him up to take him to the potty in the middle of the night, he is able to hold it until the morning when he wakes up.  occasionally he wakes up crying for me and it's usually because he has to pee that he wakes.  but i can't rely on him to do it consistently just yet.  if he's really tired, he'll just pee in his sleep.  so i have to make sure to wake him if he doesnt wake himself before midnight.

he has been using the potty to pee w/consistency but still asking for a 'poo poo diaper' for number 2.  and though i often offered the toilet to him for pooping, and let him know that poop should go into the potty and that it was cleaner that way and wouldnt irritate his butt, i really didnt expect him to be fully potty trained until he was closer to three.  certainly didnt think it would happen before he was 28 months old!

about a month ago, he started asking to use the toilet to poop at very random times, approx once or twice a week.  there really didnt seem to be a rhyme or reason to when he would suddenly decide he would want to.  then shortly after my cousin's wedding (october 23rd), he developed a stomach virus that gave him diarrhea.  so he was going more frequently (5 times a day) and it was very very runny, but somewhat controllable...he could hold it until he had a diaper put on.  it was also very irritating to his little bum and his skin was quickly beginning to turn red and painful.  i told him how much better it would be to do it on the potty, a lot less mess, and 'your butt wont hurt."  so he agreed to do it!  after getting 5 opportunities a day to poop in the potty for a week (that's how long that stomach bug lasted!), he became used to using the toilet to poop.  and that's how he got trained to do it!

now that his tummy is better, he will occasionally ask for a diaper, but i just remind him how much quicker and neater the toilet is and he'll use it (then when he's finished he'll ask me if he can have some poo poo candy as a reward!  the little stinker knows i wont say no to that because i want to keep encouraging him to continue, even though we both know he pooped in the potty regardless of the candy)

i've stocked up on more underwear for ozzy.  i dont know why little boys briefs are made with such tight waistbands, but the poor boy can barely get the band up over his (adorable) round tushie!  i've even tried to go up a size to size 4-5 and the waist bands are still tiny, but with a fuller seat.  i found some ADORABLE little baby boy boxer shorts in a 2T size that are easier to get on and off, but he prefers his Thomas and Friends briefs.  he still verbally reminds himself, "Dont pee pee on Thomas!" when he puts them on.

we still have a bunch of diapers and pull ups that i guess we'll hold on to for nighttime insurance and keep some in the car for the portable potty, or give away.   i can't believe we are done with this phase of ozzy's life already!  what does he have left of his babyhood?  he is still very attached to his bottles, even though they have a sippy spout.  he enjoys having his milk in them and cuddling with me three times a day.  it's the only time he uses a sippy cup, but i know i need to break him of this as well.   i will try to do it in the new year.  hopefully what is more important than those sippy bottles is cuddle time with mom and i can use that as a way to transition him away from his sippy bottles.

and when those are gone, he'll officially be a big boy!  omg!!!

Rainbow Magic Birthday (Mimi's 7th Birthday)

this year was a particularly difficult year to plan mimi's birthday.  after rob's dad became terminally ill, i didnt think it was good time for a party for mimi and her friends, so we decided it was best to skip a party this year and just have a quiet family dinner out.  then after dad passed and we slowly started to get back into our routines again, we all began to feel bad about not having a party for mimi, so we decided to have a party after all...although, a much belated party. mimi said she really wanted to have a party here at the house.  she really really really wanted it here, so i told her she could, if she kept it small.  since she was turning seven, i allowed her to invite seven friends. then i tasked her with thinking up a theme, and she finally settled on a favorite book series of hers called Rainbow Magic .  how perfect...each of the book sets in the series showcases 7 fairies, whether they be the rainbow fairies, the gem fairies, the party fai...

Gardening My Albatross

sometimes when i think about giving up on life in general, and sitting like a blob all day, unbidden my mind fills up with images of a neglected garden turning brown, rotting, dying, and thats often enough motivation to keep going, if for no other reason than to prevent the desolation from becoming reality.  is it weird that when i think of dying one day, that i get sad knowing my garden will die when i am gone?  i dont think anyone else would go tend to it when i am no longer around.  i hope they will at least keep a plant or two in remembrance of me, but the little pollinator waystation i've been working for several years now to create will likely be razed and no more.

Growing Things

it's crazy how long it's been since the last time i blogged here.  i spend so much time on insta and facebook, this blog has been largely ignored.  i'm on my second year of gardening and have been trying to maintaining a physical gardening log and failed at several attempts.  So i think this may be my best bet.  So here's the first gardening entry! Today is March 29th, 2022. Temps today were unseasonably cold and have been for the past three days.  Todays high temp was 47F and the low tonight will be 22F.  But should warm to the low 70s tomorrow.    This crazy cold and heavy winds yesterday blew down several daffodils.  many are leaning but upright enough that i left them and only pruned the ones that were knocked to the ground.
