ozzy is 10 months old

it's amazing to me to see how quickly ozzy is progressing. i recall this time in mimi's life, often questioning, when is she going to reach the next milestone? with ozzy, i dont even have time to think of the next milestone, let alone wonder when it will be reached, before he seems to reach it! of course even before ozzy was born i had promised myself to take it slow, dont rush him, enjoy the moments because i will have no more babies...guess he didnt get the memo. it figures, doesnt it?

ozzy is walking so well. he walks most of the time now, and reserves the crawling for times when he's sitting on the floor and something is just a tad out of reach, he'll just crawl to it then. or if he needs to get under something...like the kitchen table...but once he's under it, he stands up and then tries to walk out from under there, not realizing that he cant just walk out past the lip around the bottom edge of the table. he keeps walking forward, smacking his head, and then stands there crying because he can't walk out with hurting himself. dont know why he doesnt just go out the way he came in...crawling. stubborn. i usually have to go to the rescue and do that police maneuver, and put a hand on his head as i duck it under the table edge so he doesnt bang his head as i pull him out.

the other day, rob says ozzy was playing with the magnetic letters on the fridge, then he takes the letters to the wood cabinets and keeps trying to get them to stick to the wooden doors and when they wouldnt he got frustrated and started crying. but how intriguing that he tried to apply his previous knowledge about the magnetic letters to a different kind of door!

it's an explosion of activity lately from ozzy...he now knows to turn his body around to come down feet first off of high places.

he says "daw! daw!" for kaya and then barks, which sounds like short huffs. and if he is sitting in his high chair and i say, where's the dog? he'll lean over as far as he can and crane his head down to see if kaya is under his high chair (she is often there, ready to catch any falling scraps of food).

he is eats a wide variety of foods. last night he polished off a lots of asparagus chunks and sweet potato fries.

when he hears random music, he'll stop what he's doing and do a little bouncy dance. (very funny)

he is signing 'drink' (add that to: all done, milk, more). he extends his pointer finger and makes a fist w/the rest of his fingers, puts his pointer finger in his mouth and then tips back his head like he's taking a big swig.

he knows that his cup goes into the round well on his high chair tray, so when he's done drink he plops his cup back into that ring (that is, when he's not trying my patience and repeatedly flinging it on the floor).

he is drinking independently from a sippy cup (he can hold his bottle but prefers to have it held for him.)

i have not been able to latch him on during the day because he's become a terrible biter. (teeth number 5 and 6 have come thru and 7 and 8 are working their way out). he'll nurse nicely in the wee hours of the morning (5:30 a.m.) when he's just kind of sleepy, but during the day, every time i try, he bites me and i scream and then he cries. so i've been pumping and giving it to him in a bottle.

he's generally a really happy go lucky kind of boy. he finds many things to smile about. which is good because he falls a lot, so there's lots of tears shed enough over that! his poor forehead is a roadmap of all his falls...the scabby scrape from falling and hitting the driveway, the long thin welt from falling and smacking into the corner/edge of the kitchen cabinets, the big goose egg on his forehead, right between the two other bumps, from tripping and falling on the sidewalk...

the only other time he'll really cry and fuss is when he has something that he shouldnt have and i take it away. he maintains a kung fu death grip on the object, and i've got to pry his little fingers off and pull hard (that phrase, like taking candy from a baby? whoever made that up...never tried to get anything out of ozzy's grip!). and then his face just crumples and he WAILS. oh boy.

Rainbow Magic Birthday (Mimi's 7th Birthday)

this year was a particularly difficult year to plan mimi's birthday.  after rob's dad became terminally ill, i didnt think it was good time for a party for mimi and her friends, so we decided it was best to skip a party this year and just have a quiet family dinner out.  then after dad passed and we slowly started to get back into our routines again, we all began to feel bad about not having a party for mimi, so we decided to have a party after all...although, a much belated party. mimi said she really wanted to have a party here at the house.  she really really really wanted it here, so i told her she could, if she kept it small.  since she was turning seven, i allowed her to invite seven friends. then i tasked her with thinking up a theme, and she finally settled on a favorite book series of hers called Rainbow Magic .  how perfect...each of the book sets in the series showcases 7 fairies, whether they be the rainbow fairies, the gem fairies, the party fai...

Gardening My Albatross

sometimes when i think about giving up on life in general, and sitting like a blob all day, unbidden my mind fills up with images of a neglected garden turning brown, rotting, dying, and thats often enough motivation to keep going, if for no other reason than to prevent the desolation from becoming reality.  is it weird that when i think of dying one day, that i get sad knowing my garden will die when i am gone?  i dont think anyone else would go tend to it when i am no longer around.  i hope they will at least keep a plant or two in remembrance of me, but the little pollinator waystation i've been working for several years now to create will likely be razed and no more.

Growing Things

it's crazy how long it's been since the last time i blogged here.  i spend so much time on insta and facebook, this blog has been largely ignored.  i'm on my second year of gardening and have been trying to maintaining a physical gardening log and failed at several attempts.  So i think this may be my best bet.  So here's the first gardening entry! Today is March 29th, 2022. Temps today were unseasonably cold and have been for the past three days.  Todays high temp was 47F and the low tonight will be 22F.  But should warm to the low 70s tomorrow.    This crazy cold and heavy winds yesterday blew down several daffodils.  many are leaning but upright enough that i left them and only pruned the ones that were knocked to the ground.
